About Me

Overview

I am a practising geologist interested in exploring terrains of geological interest for economic mineral deposits. I am immensely interested in investigating the mineral trace-element and isotope geochemical compositions of accessory mineral phases in the magmatic and hydrothermal ore deposits and the associated wall-rocks. My projects are predominantly field-based that employs geological, ore-petrological, geochemical, remote sensing and GIS techniques to generate genetic and exploratory models of ore bodies. Occasionally, my research also focuses on the study of (1) magmas, continental growth and tectonics through time; (2) interaction between tectonics, climate and erosion.

I also offer consultancy services in mineral/groundwater exploration, mining, disaster management and geoscience education.

Chandan Kumar Boraiaha

Dr. Chandan Kumar Boraiaha earned his Master’s degree from Kuvempu University, Shimoga in 2008 and PhD (Geology) from Karnatak University, Dharwad in 2015. His doctoral research mainly focused on understanding the genesis and the geodynamic setting of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Dharwar-Shimoga greenstone belt of Western Dharwar Craton petrographic and petrochemical data. He joined CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad as Research Associate in 2015 and worked there for a brief period of time. Later, he joined Department of Studies in Geology, Karnatak University as Teaching Assistant where he taught Archaean Geology and Petrology to postgraduate students. He has qualified CSIR-UGC NET in Earth Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences in 2010 and Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) for Lectureship in Earth Sciences in 2014. He is a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a Member of Society of Economic Geologists. In July 2016, he joined the Central University of Kerala as Assistant Professor in Department of Geology.

He has published more than 25 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. His significant research contributions to the field of geosciences include:

  1. Ore genetic modelling of turbidite hosted orogenic gold deposits of Gadag Gold
  2. Fields, identification and mapping of metasedimentary, mafic volcanic and pyroclastic rocks in the northern part of Shimoga greenstone belt, Western Dharwar Craton (WDC)
  3. Petrogenetic and crustal evolution modelling of greenstone belts of Western Dharwar Craton
  4. Provenance and source rock characterization of the metasedimentary sequences in the greenstone belts of WDC.
